WRUK Response to Independent Review of SWFR

Official response to the publication of  the Independent Culture Review Report into South Wales Fire and Rescue Service

The Independent Culture Review Report into South Wales Fire and Rescue Service, led by Fenella Morris KC, gives many examples of the toxic culture that White Ribbon UK campaigns to end. The detailed accounts given by individuals, including many women, is harrowing. It is important to acknowledge the harm of those experiences and the bravery of people affected in telling their story.

White Ribbon UK is an organisation committed to changing cultures that are harassing, misogynist and sexist, and seek to prevent violence against women.

Following reports of the cultures within South Wales Fire and Rescue Service in December 2022 the service's Accreditation was suspended. White Ribbon Accreditation commits an organisation to a three-year action plan for change and does not mean that a standard has been reached. South Wales Fire and Rescue Service gave assurances that the issues identified in December 2022 were being addressed, including the commissioning of the Independent Culture Review Report. The Report makes clear that the issues have not been addressed and White Ribbon UK has therefore rescinded the South Wales Fire and Rescue Service' Accreditation with immediate effect.
