Birmingham International Mural Sketch: Join the men standing up for women and girls

Artist Emily Marlowe has produced a new mural sketch installed at Birmingham International Station, created to make commuters stop in their tracks. The installation is a powerful reminder of the everyday actions men can take to be part of the solution in ending violence against women and girls.

The project in partnership with White Ribbon UK, highlights how small, everyday actions can help build a world where everyone is safe, equal and respected.

Want to know more actions you can take? Below are some examples of things you can do in your daily life. You can also take your commitment further by becoming a White Ribbon UK Ambassador or Champion.

“I don’t post sexist content” …but do you stay silent when your friends share it?

Tip: Speak up or remove yourself from chats where disrespect toward women is normalised.

“I support women” …but do you follow influencers who objectify them?

Tip: Re-evaluate who you support with your likes, follows, and shares. Your engagement boosts their visibility.

“I don’t catcall” …but do you stare at women until they feel uncomfortable?

Tip: A long stare can feel threatening. Quick glances are normal, anything more can make someone feel uncomfortable.

“I’m just joking” …but do your memes put down women?

Tip: Consider the message behind the ‘banter’. Humour can reinforce harmful attitudes.

“I don’t follow women” …but do you end up walking directly behind them at night?

Tip: Cross the street or slow down. It’s not about your intentions, it’s about how it feels for women.
