White Ribbon Day is 25 November 2020

White Ribbon Day on 25 November and the 16 Days of Action to end violence against women that follow is inevitably going to look different than in previous years.  The importance of raising awareness and working to prevent violence are more important than ever.

There has been a significant increase in domestic abuse during lockdown. Coming back to school this September will be children who have experienced domestic abuse and isolation in lockdown and many who have been pressured into sharing intimate images on phones and apps. We have also seen women experiencing online workplace harassment. These are just some of the reasons why we want to have a far reaching and impactful White Ribbon Day.

White Ribbon Day has always been a vital focus for making a difference, showing that it is possible to end violence and that men, in particular, can take responsibility for looking to themselves and the behaviour of their friends, colleagues and families.

For White Ribbon Day this year we are busy creating:

  • An action pack for organisations with lots of ideas and resources for raising awareness.

  • A schools pack that will include activities and lesson plans.

  • A series of webinars with leading speakers.

Everything will be able to be used to get the message out despite coronavirus and whatever restrictions are in place.

Thank you to everyone who has come to us with ideas for White Ribbon Day this year – we are busy incorporating them into our resources.  We would like to hear what people are doing so we can share ideas with everyone.

The White Ribbon Day page on our website will be updated with latest news.

In the meantime, our shop is open with White Ribbons and a wide range of awareness raising materials available.

There is still time to get your organisation White Ribbon Accredited before White Ribbon Day – find out more here.

The White Ribbon Youth Advocate programme is free for schools and colleges and enables people aged 14-18 to take a lead in changing the cultures that end in violence against women.

As with many charities coronavirus has had a serious impact on the amount of money we receive.  Thank you to everyone who has supported us at this time, please know you are making a big difference.

Our work would not be possible without our many supporters. Please consider making a donation if you are able.

Let’s come together to make a White Ribbon Day 2020 the success it needs to be.
